Eliana Morales: Navigating Young Adulthood in Collegedale

Hi! My name is Eliana Morales. I am a junior at Southern studying mass communication with an emphasis in writing and editing. My current hobbies include journaling, cooking, reading and music.

The Collegedale Growth project is important to me because I plan to continue living here after graduation. As I spend my days on campus, I can’t help but wonder what impact the university has on our city. Questions branch out in every direction for me as this seed of curiosity grows. Here are just a few questions I’d like to explore throughout this project.

Are university graduates wanting to stay in the area? Does the presence of young adults result in the rise of city social events? What are the cultural impacts of having a large Adventist university in Collegedale?

Although my official address is in Florida, Collegedale has wormed its way into my heart because of the experiences I’ve had at Southern. For those like me, Collegedale is becoming more than just the city where we get our degrees. We begin to envision our future selves here, navigating the landscape of young adulthood.

I look forward to reaching out to our residents and readers in the following months as we do our best to tell the story of our city’s growth.

    Hello,
I noticed this journalism project while scrolling on Facebook. As a Collegedale Commissioner, I do have some perspectives to share, including how communication is important during a season of growth. The board of commissioners recently outlined a mission statement, vision statement and five goals for the city for the next 5 years. Happy to share my knowledge and insights with you and your team.
